BECKS FACTOR SEES ENGLAND SHORTEN OVERNIGHT TO 2-1 TO HOST 2018 WORLD CUP
ENGLAND’S attempt to rescue their bid to host the 2018 World Cup by sending a trio of big-name ambassadors to Zurich ahead of Thursday’s vote seems to be working, with the odds on a home win shortening overnight on Betfair from 3-1 to 2-1.
Russia are still the 10-11 favourites to host the tournament in eight years time, but the David Beckham, Prince William and David Cameron charm offensive appears to have gathered some momentum for the England campaign.
Betfair’s Richard Bloch said: “The England bid has been backed in during the last 24 hours as our three big names go on the charm offensive in Switzerland. This could just be the shot in the arm the English bid needs going into the final 24 hours of lobbying.”
